Libra Lunar Eclipse ~ A New Birth is Upon You

Libra Lunar Eclipse

There is another special celestial event happening during this very important week of the Cardinal Grand Cross—we’re going to see a total lunar eclipse.  This year, we have one of the latest possible dates for Passover and Easter and they coincide with the week of the Cosmic Cross, April 14th–23rd.  The Cosmos seems to be making a statement, especially with Earth Day capping off the week’s festivities.  It’s time for a new story!

The Libra total lunar eclipse on April 14-15 is the first of four occurring in the next two years.  The other three eclipses in the unusual “tetrad” of full Moons will be in October 2014, April 2015 and September 2015.  This month’s Lunar Eclipse will begin to show a shadow at 5:52am GMT / 1:52 am EDT on April 15th/ 10:52pm PDT on April 14th.  It will be full at 7:45am GMT/ 3:42am EDT/ 12:42 am PDT.  The eclipse will last about 4 hours, so make an eclipse party of it and share the beauty and mystery of our night sky with your friends.  The eclipse will be visible in the Western Hemisphere—from the extreme western edge of Europe through the Americas and over the Pacific.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth and Moon align, causing the Earth’s shadow to fall on the Moon, darkening it. This lunar eclipse is called the Blood Moon, because the crimson color of the Moon during an eclipse is caused by the refraction of sunlight through the Earth’s atmosphere.  We have folklore which speaks to the dangers of a lunar eclipse, but they are old stories, told by a patriarchal consciousness that feared the unknown.  These celestial events give rise to stories, because they are so mysterious and are writ large across the heavens.  What story will you hear as you watch the Moon turn red?

I’m a storyteller, and I look for the mystical in the everyday, or not so everyday.  And when I think of the red Moon eclipse, I am reminded of a story of the end of an age, when great evil comes back into the land and its presence demands that everyone stand together against it.  Guy Gavriel Kay’s soulful and exciting story is told in The Fionavar Tapestry.

A red Moon rises in the first of all worlds where gods and goddesses still walk the land and there is magic stirring all around.  It’s a world where you have to live a full life, a meaningful life.  Ancient Evil is awakening and all the lands are suffering from a great draught (climate change?).   When one young man offers his life to bring back the rains for the parched land, a red Full Moon rises on a New Moon night.  The Moon Goddess chooses to help defeat Evil. (The Goddess is returning to help us here too.)  She gives three gifts to the world, since the Goddess always works in 3s.  The first gift is healing, when she gives the sacrifice back his life just at the moment of his death.

His sacrifice and rebirth make him the Twice-Born—emissary of a god.  Not an easy path, but he now has the power of the god to use if he can (hint: it’s not a superpower.) And there will be others who sacrifice and take on power because of her gift of healing.  The second gift is the rain—breaking the hold of the powers of death over the land.  The third gift is a mystery, a magical creature created for glory and death and love.  It is a story worthy of the most famous Bards—Tolkien included.

These four red Moon eclipses, as well as the four planetary powers of the Cardinal Grand Cross, might bestow gifts as well as demands on us as well—four being the energy of manifestation.  A good story that speaks to your heart can help you shape the energies to give you purpose, passion and power.  A good story gives meaning to your life.  A good archetypal story impresses its energies on your soul.  It’s a good time to feed our souls. So as you’re sitting under the Red Moon, don’t forget to tell yourself a good story.

Libra Full Moon Eclipse 2014

This Libra/Aries full Moon eclipse had an interesting beginning on August 14, 1022.  (There are series of eclipses—this one belongs to Saros Series 122.)  With a Leo Sun and Aquarius Moon, this first eclipse spoke of the need to express our creative gifts (Leo Sun) so we can share them with the world (Aquarius Moon).  With Pluto on the galactic center in flowing angles to the eclipse, some form of transformation wanted to emerge around this issue of bringing our unique talents to the collective table.  But it was only a beginning.   Now almost one thousand years later, we are being posed a similar question.  What else are we supposed to do but bring our talents and gifts into the collective now?

A Libra Full Moon is opposite the Aries Sun.  Our sense of self-identity (Aries) can only be fully known when we relate to someone else (Libra).  With the Moon in Libra, we need to remember to have our own Aries standpoint when we relate to others.  We’ve been trained, especially women, to bend over backwards for others.  But that’s not how to create harmony and balance (Libra).  True balance comes when each person stands on their own side of the scale.  Our Libra sensibility is how we create good relationships.  Both partners’ needs can be met if we learn how to compromise. And compromise means knowing where you stand.

That’s the awareness we can get from this eclipsed Full Moon.  Lunar eclipses give us the awareness to bring a situation to an end.  While the Sun’s light is blocked by the Earth’s shadow, our unconscious motivations and desires are more easily felt.  Without the constraints of our ‘shoulds and oughts’, perhaps we can find clarity and healing of our relationship wounds now. (We’ve been dealing with the emotional aspects of those wounds with Saturn in Scorpio.)  We need to work together, and we need men and women to act together if we want to create real change.

Some of the asteroids come into play during this eclipse.  Juno, the great Queen, is conjunct the Sun, focusing us on the issue of equality between the sexes.  Ceres, the Grain Mother and Vesta, the sacred fires of life, are conjunct the Moon, opening us to our real needs as well as our caring nature.  It’s time we started to care about each other and bring that caring into our society.

I’m especially happy to see these Sabian symbols for the Sun and Moon, since they are the symbols for my Nodes.  This total lunar eclipse is just a few degrees from our present Nodes: the North Node is in Libra and the South Node is in Aries.  The spiritual directive is to leave behind self-interest and direct our energies toward the common good.   With the Moon conjunct the Libra North Node, we have to begin to trust our emotional intelligence.  It is the heart that knows truth and wisdom.  And there’s so little heart in our corporate society.

The Sabian symbol (from Steve Eardley) for the Sun at 26* Aries is: Standing in the center of the fiery fountain of life, a man is overwhelmed by hundreds of new inspirations. This symbol is so joyous—to stand in the fiery fountain of life is to be filled with a passion that wells up from the heart, to be intoxicated with potential and to engage with the Creative Imagination.   We have to jump into that fountain with both feet and yet not get stuck in our own heads.  We are called to the North Node in Libra—to partnership.

The Sabian symbol (from Dane Rudhyar) for the Moon at 26* Libra is: An eagle and a white dove change swiftly into each other.  This symbolizes the ability to process life with both our Spiritual Will and our soulful Love.  It is so important for us to unite our head and heart, our soul and spirit if we’re going to make the very real changes our society needs.  It won’t happen overnight, but it will happen person by person as we stand up for our values and our beliefs.  The Eagle of Spirit and the Dove of Aphrodite are really two sides of the same coin—spiritual self-awareness (Christ consciousness) united with Wisdom.

The Sabian symbol for the North Node at 29* Libra is: Vast masses of people push forward reaching for knowledge.  Our destiny now is to awaken, to push forward in our search for the truth, which is what knowledge gives us.  Pluto has been supplying the truth of the decay and hypocrisy of modern society.  And it’s no longer hidden so we can act on what we know.

The Sabian symbol for the South Node at 20* Aries is: A celestial choir has arisen to sing cosmic harmonies.   We get our passion from this innate knowledge of our conscious union with cosmic powers.  We have to have faith in the order and meaning of life in order to go searching for that North Node knowledge.

This lunar eclipse occurs within the womb of the Cardinal Grand Cross that is perfecting this week.  You can read all about it in the Cosmic Story: The Heavenly Cosmic Cross.  There are four mighty Powers taking up their stations in the heavens at each of the four arms of a cosmic cross.  As these Powers turn the cosmic wheel, new energies will be available for us to use in our lives and for our world.

So this month stay awake, have faith, be brave and face death.

A new birth is upon you.

Neptune, Venus and Chiron in Pisces form another sort of womb—a collective yearning for something better to arise in our world.  Pisces is the realm of the Collective Unconscious and the longings we feel for union with each other and the Divine Source.  Neptune is the power of the imagination, Venus is the power of Love and Chiron is the power that heals our souls.  It is a potent combination that gives rise to Wisdom.  Keep in touch with your dreams and let them guide you through any turbulent waters you come across.  This is the time of resurrection and new life.  Send your love into the future.

Easter Morning in Wales

A garden inside me, unknown, secret

neglected for years,

the layers of its soil deep and thick.

Trees in the corners with branching arms

and the tangled briars like broken nets.

Sunrise through the misted orchard,

morning sun turns silver on the pointed twigs.

I have woken from the sleep of ages and I am not sure

if I am really seeing, or dreaming,

or simply astonished

walking toward sunrise

to have stumbled into the garden

where the stone was rolled from the tomb of longing.

Astrological events:

After the New Moon in Aries two weeks ago on March 30th, the Sun connected with each corner of the grand cross.  On April 1, Aries Sun squared Jupiter in Cancer.  On April 2, Aries Sun conjunct Uranus in Aries. On April 3, Aries Sun squared Pluto in Capricorn.  On April 8, Aries Sun opposed Mars retrograde in Libra.

April 14th: Pluto goes retrograde at 4:44 pm PDT at 14* Capricorn:  In a dense jungle, a perfectly preserved Mayan bas-relief.    When we discover ancient civilizations, we take comfort in our human experience and even the continuity of life.  People like us lived in earlier times.   Pluto here wants us to know (1) our civilization won’t last forever and (2) we will leave something of value behind.   That’s what evolution is all about—leaving behind what no longer serves life, and keeping those things that sustain all of life for the future.

April 14th: Mercury in Aries squares Jupiter in Cancer and Pluto in Capricorn while joining with Uranus in Aries, filling our Mind with new ideas and necessary plans.

April 15th: Libra Lunar Eclipse

April 16th: Mercury in Aries opposes Mars in Libra.  With all the major players of the cosmic cross connecting with the planet of the Mind, stay centered in your thought, words and actions.

April 19th: Sun enters Taurus

April 20th: Easter Sunday.  Jupiter squares Uranus and opposes Pluto.  This can be a turbulent and intense day, but if we keep in mind the symbolic purpose of Easter—the belief in our spiritual resurrection—we can show the world and each other what awake and aware people can do.

April 21st: 5th Uranus in Aries/Pluto in Capricorn square.  This is the quintessence, the 5th time—the time to begin the rest of our lives.

April 22nd:  Earth Day.  Mars in Libra square Jupiter in Cancer.  It’s a good day to dream big and get past limiting beliefs.  We can save our Mother Earth and each other.

April 23rd: Mars opposes Uranus and squares Pluto.  This is probably the most intense day, with Mars pushing for revolution and evolution.  Be innovative and stay calm!

As you can see, these next few weeks are a cosmic roller-coaster of energies.  Have faith in yourself and the work you’ve done over the past 25 years.  It’s time to let your light shine out into the world now.  This is only the beginning!

Cathy

The Cardinal Grand Cross of April 2014

The Cosmic Story: The Heavenly Grand Cross

and the Maturing of the American Psyche.

Cardinal Grand Cross of April 2014

Welcome my dears! Come sit around my fire. I want to tell you a story. I believe stories are food for the soul, and right now, my soul needs a good story and perhaps yours does too. My story shines light on our crazy world, giving us an archetypal perspective of what we are facing. It gives meaning to our experience, gives us hope and like the best fairy tales, gives us instructions for living fully at this transformational time in human history.

There are four mighty Powers taking up their stations in the heavens at each of the four arms of a cosmic cross. As these Powers turn the cosmic wheel, new energies will be available for us to use in our lives and for our world. So this month stay awake, have faith, be brave and face death. A new birth is upon us.

Cardinal Grand Cross, April 2014

The Cosmic Story tells us there is a Cosmic Cross forming in our sky. Four archetypal Powers are taking their stand at the four corners of this cross. The cross stretches through the Cardinal signs of the Zodiac: Uranus stands in Aries, Jupiter in Cancer, Mars in Libra and Pluto in Capricorn. These four signs also preside over the changing of the seasons: Vernal Equinox/Aries, Summer Solstice/Cancer, Autumn Equinox/Libra and Winter Solstice/Capricorn. That makes this a very dynamic cross. It calls for movement and change.

Cardinal Grand Cross of April 2014

These four archetypal Powers are the ones doing the moving! Yet, each of us is called to take part in this movement, grounding these powerful energies consciously, bringing balance and stability into play. This cosmic cross calls us to our destinies. It is synchronistic that this cosmic cross comes to perfection (tightest angles) during the Christian Holy Week, when we remember the Christ who allowed himself to be nailed to the cross of Earth and then showed us that resurrection and rebirth are possible.

At the end of the Age of Pisces, we are all called to this mystery of re-birth and resurrection. Jesus, the god-man of the Piscean Age, did say that he was just showing us the way. It’s time we got serious about our cosmic mission. This Cosmic Cross is our call to action. We have to do our part to change the direction our world is going in.

The Cosmic Cross creates a womb which includes the ongoing Uranus/Pluto square. This is the 5th square in a highly unusual series of 7 squares—7 symbolizing an initiation into higher consciousness. That initiation completes next year. Now we have to deal with the 5th square—a crossroads that will determine the outcome of this cosmic challenge. Did you know that the energy of the 5 is called the Quintessence? The Quintessence is considered the fifth element, the purest form of a thing, something new and wonderful that’s never been seen before, something that accelerates growth. The Quintessence is the life force, calling us to a new state of being.

Cardinal Grand Cross of April 2014

So we’re in luck! This Cardinal Grand Cross is blessed by the power of the Quintessence, offering us needed Life energy to help us face this world crisis. If we actually take up this cross and bear the responsibility of facing the challenge of global climate change, it will change everything. We can overthrow the patriarchal paradigm of life as work as money and profit if we truthfully face the fact of climate change. We will have to change our lifestyle and create a more sustainable society. That will change everything else. The Clean Sweep Program and the Needless Program can help you.

We have to remember that we are part of the web of life. Without clean water, air and earth, humans die. Mother Earth can heal herself once we’re gone, but if we want to stick around, we have to learn to honor and work with our Mother Earth so we have a home to live on. We’ve gotten stuck in the idiotic ‘enlightened’ rational notion that the Earth is only dead matter and we can do anything we want to Her.

Unfortunately, that’s never been true and we’ve left doing something about it until the last minute, like teen-agers with term papers due next week. That means we’ll have to mature quickly.

Transformation of the American Psyche

This is where the transformation of the American psyche comes in. American culture and corporations have pretty much taken over the world. We do live in one world now, even if some of us only live on the outskirts. It is the American mindset of individualism, consumerism and adolescent negligence and self-interest that has taken over, and now it has to mature into a more responsible, adult concern for community welfare and the common good.

Cardinal Grand Cross of April 2014

When we look at the 4th of July birth chart of the United States of America, we are looking at the original manifesto of the belief in freedom, equality and the hope for a better life. While some people still think we’re following those beliefs, the reality is those beliefs have been twisted into a travesty of their original intent. Somehow the idea of adults living a free and responsible life has become the freedom to act selfishly and unwisely whenever possible. I picture Pinocchio and his thuggish friends going to the island of pleasures where they can have whatever their hearts desire. And they all turn into donkeys! We need to redefine ourselves. At the moment, one of the critical energies affecting

America’s birth chart is its approaching Pluto return. None of us will ever live to have a Pluto return, which takes around 240 years, but the USA is going to have our first Pluto return in 2022. When a planet returns to its birth degree, we have to look at the archetypal energy and re-birth it in a new form. We are at the very end of a cycle that deals with power. We have to reconsider our use of military, political, economic and cultural power (Pluto in Capricorn). We are being asked to reconsider what power is and how to use it. Under patriarchy, power has been used to dominate.

Hopefully, as we reclaim feminine consciousness as equal to masculine consciousness, we will have a society that knows how to channel power without trying to own it. But until then, we have to go through disruptions that will break down the old system before we can create a new one. And as we are seeing, the old system isn’t going ‘gently into that good night’. That’s why all of us have to step up to the plate and get involved.

Cardinal Grand Cross of April 2014

Two of the planets that make up this Cosmic Cross sit exactly on America’s Sun in Cancer (our identity) square Saturn in Libra (our responsibility to others). America’s challenge has always been to grow up and take responsibility for ourselves and others; to become a real leader. We’ve done this in the past, but now that we’re the only superpower we seem to have lost sight of our original mission. Now it’s all about what’s in our economic best interests rather than meeting everyone’s true needs. Like autocratic children who only think of themselves, we have descended into narcissism. It’s all about us! Donkeys!

Jupiter is in Cancer exactly on America’s Sun, giving us a refresher course in cosmic law that can either regenerate our cultural identity or just make our arrogance more blatant. Americans have to go back to the basics of what it means to be free, since freedom is the basis of our cultural myth. What happened to the brave ancestral spirit that cried ‘give me liberty or give me death’ when faced by an autocratic government that did not care for the common good?

The spiritual power Jupiter bestows in this Cosmic Cross is not about following rigid religious dogma but rather a spiritual vision that makes us better people. In Cancer, the sign of the Mother, Jupiter’s power lies in the hands of the Great Mother, who understands what people really need to blossom into adult human beings—a safe environment, a good home, lots of love, trustworthy security, creative outlets and a strong sense of community. (Cosmic Law 101: Mothers are shaped to love the life they give birth to.) That’s where Pluto in Capricorn comes in. Pluto stands across from Jupiter in this Cosmic Cross—two really big powers struggling to construct a strong connection. At their best, these two powers want to work together to make us more aware of what makes for a life-enhancing, healthy society.

To this end, Pluto has been busy undermining social structures that are no longer attuned to their original purpose. Pluto’s transit through the sign of our social structures is showing us how unhealthy they are. The American way of life is sustained by junk food, whose only purpose is to feed the greed of imaginary corporate ‘people’ whose only god is money. Pluto’s telling us it’s time the world went on a diet! (Cosmic Law 101: Fathers were originally shaped to help protect us from and connect us to a larger world.) Our government and financial sector have been hijacked by the military-industrial complex, an economic system that only serves its own self-interests. So Pluto is helping uncover its corruption and decay.

Our job is to implement the changes we need to make to create a sustainable culture that helps people attain the original promise of ‘life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness’. That’s where we got off-track. Our bridge (the patriarchy) to a sustainable culture broke. So far, corporations make lousy mothers and dictatorial fathers who are not very good examples for the other ‘people’ in the world. (Cosmic Law 101: Corporations ARE NOT people.)

Mars retrograde in Libra is exactly on America’s Saturn in Libra, challenging America’s natal Cancer Sun. Mars energy helps us act on our desires, and when it joins with Saturn in Libra, it pushes us to take fair and balanced actions that lead to diplomacy rather than war. I understand how passionate people are about their beliefs, but those beliefs are often so unconscious that they blind us to what is really going on.

When the U.S. Supreme Court votes to allow even more money into politics under our 1st Amendment rights, they are saying that money equals freedom of speech. Sorry Supreme Court patriarchal justices, WRONG! Their decision is really about the freedom to manipulate power. But many people don’t see that; instead they can only see the old story about Democrats and Republicans—rather than the truth that America’s highest court just declared that ‘Might/Money makes Right’. King Arthur would be ashamed!

Mars in Libra uses our will and Saturn’s focus to help us speak truth to power and stand up for the Truth without getting caught up in non-essential arguments. Libra is an air sign, so it is concerned with how we socialize with each other, how fair and just our system is. It’s important now to add Saturn’s discipline to our actions and words. Hone your passions and stand strong for your values. You’ll find ways to communicate the truth so that others can see the truth for themselves. Mars symbolizes our desire nature, our passions and our assertiveness. With Mars in Venus’ sign of Libra, Mars becomes the White Knight, the True King, the protector of all beauty and grace and love.

Mars in Libra is in love with Venus, acting on her behalf to bring harmony and balance into any situation. Mars stands at one arm of the cross to make sure that we act on our ideals. We just have to remember what they are. (Cosmic Law 101: When feminine and masculine energies work in harmony and balance, they give birth to abundant life.) Across from Mars on the cross stands Uranus, the original freedom fighter, the archetypal power of revolution and sudden change. Here are 25 Steps to make you stronger.

In Aries, this Power awakens us to a new identity. Aries is the archetypal realm of primal fire and desire, where we ask these questions:

  • Who do I want to be?
  • What do I want to do?
  • How can I be a leader?

We’ve talked about Uranus as our access to the archetypal realm of the starry night sky, the cosmic principles which shape our lives here on Earth. While Jupiter knows the meaning and purpose of those archetypal principles, Uranus gets us in touch with them, cracking us open to plunge us into the archetypal processes that shape our souls. Uranus in Aries wants to revolutionize our identities, shattering our old, patriarchal ego-identities which suited us well for survival in modern society, and awaken a more primal identity which meets the needs of our world in crisis. Warrior, healer, bard, wise woman. Just a few examples of what we are meant to be. What we need to become if we are to live out our destiny and help shape the future. (Cosmic Law 101: Self-definition comes from within through the power of the archetypes.)

We have four archetypal Powers channeling the energies of the 4 directions, grounding us in the here and now, providing a foundation for a new birth. Uranus, the rebel leader who connects us to our purpose. Jupiter, the lawgiver and storyteller who inspires us to have faith in our visions and gives us a mother’s love in our hearts. Mars, the defender, the great power of desire that helps us stand steady and reach out a hand to heal and help. Pluto, dark lord of the power of time, moving us forward by killing off what needs to die in order to survive. Powerful and perilous energies that need a human heart to channel them into life.

Through the cardinal action of motion, these Powers turn the Cosmic Cross; and through the energy of the 5th square, they usher in a new era, a new consciousness. We are the grandmothers and grandfathers of the future. Can we really let the children of the future suffer for how we misused the Earth? We have the capacity to grow up and work with Mother Earth to create a heart-centered world—a world at peace and in balance. A world that values both the individual and the community. A world where men and women, masculine and feminine consciousness are both held in equal honor.

A world which uses our creativity to enhance life rather than create death. It will take a lifetime of exploration and dedication to achieve it. But if we choose this path, the future holds so much promise. This month’s Cosmic Story heralds change. What kind of change depends on those of us who step forward as stewards of the Earth and visionary activists.1 Are you willing to step into the story and become an agent of change? Then go home and let the story live in you.

Aries New Moon is a Cardinal Cross

The Cosmic Story:  Aries New Moon 2014

Before he makes each one of us, God speaks.  Then, without speaking, he takes each one out of the darkness.  And these are the cloudy words God speaks before each of us begins:

“You have been sent out by your senses. Go to the farthest edge of desire, and give me clothing: burn like a great fire so that the stretched-out shadows of the things of the world cover me completely.  Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror. You must just go—no feeling is the farthest you can go. Don’t let yourself be separated from me. The country called life is close.  By its seriousness, you will know it. Give me your hand.”

Before He Makes Each One   ~ Rainer Maria Rilke ~

With both the Sun and Moon in Aries, we really begin the new astrological year.  At the Aries New Moon, we set the seeds we planted last Winter Solstice into motion. That’s what Aries is all about in some ways—motion.  Where to go?  What to do?  The internal and eternal quest for ‘Who am I?’  Aries’ primal fire and passion move us into life.  Aries sets us off on a quest as soon as we arrive at the Spring Equinox.  We just intuitively know that ideas and goals we’ve been mulling over are about to move into the world.  The sap rises as the spring sun warms the Earth.  Life which was dormant over the winter is waking up!  Aries has arrived.

All of us have Aries somewhere in our natal charts.  We all have an Aries side to us; all the planetary energies are available to us.  Aries is an archetypal pattern of life we share in.  But how we specifically meet and use our Aries experiences will differ.

It is the energy of Mars, who astrologers consider Aries’ ‘ruler’ (the planetary energy which best exemplifies a zodiacal sign), who shapes Aries’ purpose for our use.  Mars is the archetypal Warrior, and each of you will have your own unique brand of warrior depending on where your natal Mars is.

Aries is supported by the Warrior archetype, because the truth is, life itself is often a battle.  We no longer live the easy life of the Garden of Eden, although we could begin to create our own earthly version if we evolve out of childish self-concern and fear into conscious community and vision.  We’re smart enough, but are we emotionally mature enough?  Only time will tell.

So how do we use this archetypal warrior energy that moves through all of us?  At their best and brightest, warriors are the protectors and defenders of the tribe, the land and the city.  Roman Mars was just that—he grappled with the problems facing communal life and defended his people when needed.  We must each find our courage—an Aries trait—to become the people we are meant to evolve into.  And to bring our ideas, our love and our purpose to help the larger community as we go through our collective transformation.

This New Moon is truly a new birth.  It is energetically connected to the on-going Pluto-Uranus square, the womb of evolution that is presently shaking and re-shaping our planetary life.  We are living in such important times—times where not only people, but the Earth herself needs defending.  We all are being called upon to take an active role in shaping our future.

As Pluto pulls down the decaying structures of patriarchal society (and corporations becoming ‘people’ is the ultimate sociopathic attempt by patriarchy to hold onto power), we need new ideas, new leaders and new structures that reflect true democracy around the world to fill the void left by Pluto’s destruction.  And that includes equality not only between women and men, but between feminine intuition/feeling and masculine rationality/facts.  We need both sides of our brains to help solve our problems and create a more caring, open and free society.

Pluto in Capricorn is showing us that the Emperor has no clothes on.  Our patriarchal emperor (Money is Power, Might makes Right) is being exposed for the fraud he is.  The Emperor in the Tarot is ruled by Aries.  He’s the pioneer, the discoverer, the leader, the initiator, the innovator.  He has an urge for action, a sense of adventure and looks for new beginnings.  While patriarchy has certainly exhibited these qualities in the past, it has become caught up in a power complex that is leading us into the dark side of the force.

When the Emperor’s powers are used for transformation and new beginnings, the effects are beneficial to all the people.  But when this energy is used to preserve the status quo, structures petrify and creative expression stagnates.  Authority once grounded in wisdom (because he’s married to the Empress) expresses itself as authoritarian domination (she’s dead).   Patriarchy is afraid of change, and that will lead to its downfall.  Evolution happens!

Each of us has a different destiny, a different calling.  That’s what Aries’ energy moves us to explore. Humanity has been shaped by archetypes, opening us to many callings: Healer, Teacher, Counselor, Leader, Mother, Father, Mid-Wife, Judge, Record-Keeper, Scout, Artisan, Inventor, Scientist, Musician, Actor, Writer, Artist, Priestess, Wise Woman, Priest, Sage.   Warrior.  Like Jake in Avatar, our deepest wounds revolve around freedom and the disconnect between our collective reality and our deepest wishes for a peaceful, beautiful and loving life.

Since one of the duties of the warrior is to guard and defend, it would help us to learn the ways of the warrior to defend ourselves as we step into our destiny.  We’ll activate our Aries energies in a big way with Uranus in Aries very close to this New Moon.  Uranus is the great Awakener, the revolutionary and the mad genius of the zodiac.  So throw in a bit of daredevil adventurer and you have your Aries warrior.

With Mars the warrior retrograding in Libra, the sign of the Other, we are more willing to defend the rights of others, to work on being fair and balanced and to be kind and courteous.  Libra is ‘ruled’ by Venus, the feminine energy of love, wisdom and connection.  This loving energy will sustain us when express ourselves.  It’s easiest to find your path to self-expression when there will be love waiting for whatever you do.  (Debora Geary)  So let’s add a kind heart to our description as well.  They make the best warriors.

As we ground in this new identity (Uranus in Aries), our warrior nature will help us challenge the powers-that-be that stand in the way of needed transformation (Pluto in Capricorn).  So find your inner spiritual warrior who will guard your back and help keep you focused on your destiny.  And don’t be afraid to step in and defend people, places and animals who can’t help themselves.

The Aries New Moon, birthed within the Uranus-Pluto womb, is strengthened by the addition of Jupiter in Cancer and a wide opposition from Mars.  These four planets are slowly coming together to form a cardinal grand cross in the sky—a celestial call to action.  Jupiter in Cancer opens our emotional bodies so we can integrate these transformative energies and find a new wholeness.  Mars energizes our willpower as well as our desires, and Jupiter challenges us to include the desires of our community and our world.

So you can see why this New Moon is so potent.  The energy of transformation is being seeded within each of us.  Find out where Aries and Mars are in your birth chart, and it will give you a good idea of the texture and focus of this new beginning and the kind of warrior energy you carry.

The Sabian symbol for the Sun and Moon at 10* Aries is: A shining golden ring, engraved with magical symbols.  This image speaks of a marriage ring which symbolizes a union with the Self—the divine spark within each of us.  The magical symbols represent the archetypal laws of life which are the foundations of our own life.  When we are connected to the Self, we are Self-confident, Self-possessed.  We include all of ourselves into the truth of who we are and who we are here on Earth to be.  Then the magic can happen.

We’ll need to live out our higher Self to take on this challenge.  We are being initiated into a higher consciousness; we are birthing a new future for our world.  We are the grandmothers and grandfathers of the future.  Don’t be afraid to blaze new trails and think new thoughts.

Venus in Aquarius challenges Saturn in Scorpio to hold onto our high ideals and our unique gifts in relationships.  Old relationship wounds need to be transformed into understanding, as our higher Mind gets activated.  Our visions of the future must be grounded in our collective welfare.  Saturn is part of a grand water trine, along with Jupiter in Cancer and Mercury in Pisces.  Our connection to each other through this water triangle merges with the grand cross through Jupiter in Cancer.  We really need to think outside the box and understand that what’s good for me is also good for you.  The psychic water trine brings our emotional bodies into balance so we can handle the grand cross’ energies.

We are heading into an intense month.  By mid-April, this grand cross will tighten just as we enter eclipse season.  Life is picking up speed.  The best thing you can do is stay centered, married to yourself, so you can open up to the energies in a conscious way.  Become channels for this energy by naming it and owning it.

During April , the grand cross hits America’s 4th of July birth chart Sun square Saturn.  It will ask Americans to grow up and find their true freedom.   Astrologers are guessing at all the ways these energies will manifest in the culture.  We cannot predict what will happen, although we can certainly imagine some of the outcomes.  This will be a pivotal moment of change in some way.  But since we don’t want to sit back and just be spectators, here’s an idea.

What would happen if during this month, we consciously use this energy to interact with people in a deep way by radiating who we really are.  We can use the energies of this grand cross to BE an example of the best way to deal with our times.  We could stop hiding our light under a bushel.  Imagine how you want to BE and trust yourself to be it.

More to come in the Aries/Libra Full Moon eclipse newsletter.

SELF-PORTRAIT

It doesn’t interest me if there is one God
or many gods.
I want to know if you belong or feel
abandoned,
if you can know despair or see it in others.
I want to know
if you are prepared to live in the world
with its harsh need
to change you. If you can look back
with firm eye,
saying this is where I stand. I want to know
if you know
how to melt into that fierce heat of living,
falling toward
the center of your longing. I want to know
if you are willing
to live, day by day, with the consequence of love
and the bitter
unwanted passion of your sure defeat.

I have heard, in that fierce embrace, even
the gods speak of God.

“If holy water – the rivers, lakes, and oceans
“What if meditation was our relationships

We’re still swimming in the dreamy waters of Pisces, so flip over onto your back and let the moonlight bathe and sooth you, body and soul.  That’s when Spirit’s voice comes clear.

Perhaps you’ve been lost in the dark watery depths amidst strangely glowing nightmare creatures or swimming fast and free with a pod of dolphins or breaching with a family of whales.  Perhaps you’ve gotten stuck in stagnate seas of weeds and grass or finally been tumbled to distant shores.  If you’ve flowed with Pisces’ watery energies, you might feel like your life is dissolving into a new unity of spirit; if you’ve struggled against the tides you might find yourself lost at sea.  But wherever you find yourself on Full Moon night, take this magical moonlight into your heart.   Listen to and look at what’s there.

The Virgo Full Moon tells us, “You belong to yourself.  As much as you are part of a whole, you are also a unique drop in the ocean of consciousness.  What do you want to do with your drop?  What does your drop want to do with you?”

We are all here on Earth for the specific reason that’s encoded within our soul, just as our physical body is encoded by our DNA.  Each of us has a destiny—each destiny is unique and yet part of the whole.  Are you re-birthing the archetype of the Mother, because our society needs nurturing, love and comfort; are you transforming the archetypal image of Father into the wise guide, the caring protector and the truthful judge?  Our world certainly needs more of these people.   Do you find yourself incarnating the archetypal energy of the Warrior, the Healer, the Artist, the Bard, the Leader, the Priestess or Priest?  How about the conscious Merchant, the courageous Scout?  Uranus in Aries opens us to these archetypal identities just as we are challenged to re-create the society that Pluto in Capricorn is tearing down.  If we are truly one universe, then our instructions are clear—be your unique Self.  Who do you want to be?

Virgo is the sign of the Virgin, the one who knows seeks self-knowledge, to know oneself, both light and shadows.  Our Christian era has re-defined Virgin to only mean its physical sexual aspect; in ancient times, a virgin was a woman who belonged to no man, who was a woman in her own right.  She belonged to herself!  Each of us, man and woman, can reclaim our feminine virginal energy—we can belong to ourselves.  On this Virgo Full Moon night, we can see who we’re meant to be if we’re willing to acknowledge who we really are.

Virgo’s shadow can distort our need to know ourselves into the need to control things to attain the ideal of perfection—someone else’s idea of perfection!  Virgo’s real purpose is to help us know and accept who we really are.   Virgo’s analytical mind measures and aligns; Virgo’s magic understands how everything fits together to make it work.  Virgo’s greatest gift is discernment, knowing this from that.  This helps us master a talent, and understand how it can be of service to others. (Make yourself Irresistibly Attractive to the right people and opportunities.)

On Full Moon night, the Piscean ocean will send out a drop of its womblike waters to each of us, filtered through the Virgo Moon.  The drop of our Piscean longing and dreams.  Who do you see? Do you see yourself?

Virgo Full Moon

The Virgo Full Moon occurs on Sunday March 16th at 10:08pm PDT/ 7:08pm EDT/ 5:08pm GMT.

The Pisces Sun shines out on the Virgo Moon to illuminate how well we’ve integrated our spirituality with our physicality, our soul with our personality.  Uniting a deep spiritual outlook with a sense of humble service, this Full Moon calls us to be of service to our world now.

The Sabian symbol for the Sun at 27* Pisces is: The Harvest Moon illumines a clear autumnal sky.  In autumn when the Harvest Moon shines, it often looks bigger than other full moons.  It heralds a time of harvest, of bringing in what we have cultivated and sown.  At the end of the astrological year, we also do this on a karmic level.  What have we sown this year and what have we reaped?  As you float on the moonlit waters, see what you’ve accomplished this year and let it go, so that the seeds of this new year have room to grow.

The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 27* Virgo is:  A group of aristocratic ladies meet ceremonially at a court’s function.  All societies need certain rituals that hold and focus the energies of the people so we can act as a community.  It is the feminine spirit that holds the hopes and wishes of any society.  And it is the Divine Feminine who is calling to us now to remember we are all one—that we depend upon each other.  It reminds us to be courteous, thoughtful and compassionate as we head into the tumultuous times coming our way this April.

This Virgo Full Moon gets support from Saturn retrograde in Scorpio, just as the Full Moon acceptance of Self gives support to Saturn’s deep emotional restructuring.  Saturn in Scorpio has been hard on us because looking at our darker feelings is hard.  Saturn in Scorpio puts the squeeze on us through our unresolved fears, wounds, betrayals or obsessions.

Scorpio is the sign of death and rebirth, a death and rebirth of our emotional body.  Our feeling nature, our heart, is where we get our passion and love of life; it is also the place where our complexes and behaviors are molded.  Scorpio is the container of all our emotional wounds; an alchemical container of transformation.

Saturn is the taskmaster and Saturn’s truth is that we learn more from pain than from pleasure.  Saturn teaches us to survive, because Saturn is the energy that grounds us here.  Saturn in Scorpio can give us the discipline and focus to treat each other as we’d like to be treated.  Self-respect is key to accepting ourselves, both the Light and the Dark.  Self-respect gives us the courage to look in the dark and discover the treasures hidden behind the pain that keeps us in the dark.

Now that Saturn is retrograde, we get to look into Scorpio’s realm—we get to look inside ourselves and understand our fears, bind our wounds with meaning, forgive our betrayers and let go of our obsessions. We get to re-structure our emotional complexes and behaviors when it comes to relating with others.  So let go of your fears and insecurities, take a new emotional stand and act as if it’s really you until you feel it and it becomes a new way of being for you.  Understanding and accepting yourself is the first step. (Go here and use the Strong You Program. This will empower and strengthen you and prepare you for April’s intense growth.)

The Lunar Nodes have changed signs, moving from Scorpio backwards into Libra.  The Moon’s Nodes are points in space where the planes of the Sun, Moon and Earth line up—the points in space where eclipses occur.  They move counter-clockwise in the sky, from 30* to 0* of a sign.  They focus our collective attention on what needs to be released and what needs to be learned.  For the past year and a half, we have learned to release old values (Taurus) that make us complacent and learn more about how to work with others and their values to achieve results.

Now our lessons involve the balance between ourselves and others, between Aries and Libra.  The Aries South Nodes indicates lessons around selfishness, arrogance and frustration and the need for self-sacrifice to accommodate the needs of others.  The Libra North Node demands that we learn the lessons of cooperation and balance, of a healthy respect for self and others, and of the need to balance masculine and feminine energies to create a new whole.

With a true sense of ourselves, we can step into new emotional behavior patterns with others, where we see each other’s truths and acknowledge our own.  With Mars retrograding in Libra until May 19-20 and not leaving Libra until the end of July, it is the time to practice our people skills.  Courtesy and respect are always in order with Libra’s love of grace and charm.  Venus and Mars are still ruling the nodal positions, with Libra’s Venus calling us to harmony and peace over Mars in Aries shouts for war.  Since Mars is staying in Venus’ house for a while, I’m sure she can convince him to change his ways!  The destined push toward Libra from the nodal axis will help her.  Not that Aphrodite in full splendor needs much help if we honor her!

Neptune and Chiron in Pisces are pulled into the energy of the Pluto/Uranus square through Jupiter in Cancer.  With these planets in Pisces, one of the things I feel going on in the collective unconscious is that our imaginations are being healed.  And perhaps we are relating to them in a different way.  Our media (owned by only 5 companies!!!) overcomes and impresses our imaginations with their symbols and images, shaping our beliefs to their specifications.  But when we engage the imagination through inner journeys, active imagination and creative visualization, we work with the imagination to learn something new about ourselves and the world.  We open ourselves to possibilities and bring those back into our outer reality through our creativity and innovation, our love and caring.  Jupiter is in Cancer, opening our hearts to the possibilities waiting to be birthed.  Tied into the Piscean energies, Jupiter channels and engenders Spirit within us.  Listen within to your heart’s desire.(Liberate Your Mind use the Four Agreements and truly be a Free Empowered Spiritual Warrior.)

Perhaps if you get up while it’s still dark out, you’ll see Venus in Aquarius shining brightly as the Morning Star.  At the Full Moon, Venus inspires Uranus to activate our highest ideals when we imagine who we are meant to be.  Venus’s relationship with Jupiter can give us a broad, generous and gracious outlook when considering the needs of ourselves and others.  Since Aphrodite/Venus was born out of the Piscean collective unconscious, it is only right that we embrace her gifts of Love, Beauty and Wisdom as we work to give shape to our destiny.

The Cosmic Story is heating up, preparing for a week of intense energies in April.  I’ll write more about that in the Aries New Moon newsletter.

SOMETIMES

Sometimes
if you move carefully
through the forest

breathing
like the ones
in the old stories

who could cross
a shimmering bed of dry leaves
without a sound,

you come
to a place
whose only task

is to trouble you
with tiny
but frightening requests

conceived out of nowhere
but in this place
beginning to lead everywhere.

Requests to stop what
you are doing right now,
and

to stop what you
are becoming
while you do it,

questions
that can make
or unmake
a life,

questions
that have patiently
waited for you,

questions
that have no right
to go away.
